Write my Book - Ten Tips On How To Achieve Your Successfully Completed Ghostwriter Project

My best case scenario for this tip's article was to make it two tips; tip one and tip two. The success of all and every project you will undertake with a ghostwriter for any work beyond an article be it an academic or professional report, an ebook or a book, rests on these two factors only; relationship and communication.

Well, we cannot always have the summary edition and I have therefore broken them down to the ten that I perceive as being most essential:

1.    Develop a relationship of mutual respect with the writer and guard that relationship dearly. Whereas some people see the ghostwriter task as thankless and would wish to impute that attitude on the author, it is a dangerous perspective. You are handing over your intellectual property to someone else and anticipating that they will produce it to represent you in the best possible light. Work with them with that honor in mind and never take the ghostwriter for granted.

2.    Keep the communication lines open. The person who should be able to get you 24/7, (within reasonable parameters) for the life the project to develop your book or ebook is your ghost writer. Asking them to talk to your secretary when they have a question is just not going to work in your favor.

3.    Provide answers and information on time; a ghostwriter will mostly work on more than one project and when you go quiet, they embark on something else which will impact on the deadlines relating to your work.

4.    Keep notes or recordings as ideas come to you that add to the project and communicate these batches once the writing starts. What one discovers in the course of having a book written is that they could see a point in the morning that shoots off at a tangent in the afternoon. If you communicate every little detail as it come along, you will confuse your writer. Rather, hold you thought until it has matured and give the information in one batch.

5.    Communicate; ask questions and give answers. Do not try and second guess a ghost writer's thoughts, or assume they know what you are thinking. Ask, clarify, tell, narrate, remind, and make sure you are both clear what is on your mind. Ghost writers, thank God, are not ghosts; they are human and can only see so much who only see so much.

6.    Do not try and write for the ghost writer. Just give them a basic outline of your idea, send the materials along with it, and let them figure it out in close communication with you. You are paying them to sift through and come up with a readable text, so allow them to work.

7.    Keep the relationship respectful, the communication open, but always insist on a written agreement no matter how much you 'feel' you trust the ghostwriter or how long you have worked together. It is good for the legal protection of both parties.

8.    Be clear about what is expected of you in the contract, and very clear about what you expect from the ghostwriter. That way you can quickly tell when the other party is falling back on their part of the bargain.

9.    Keep a follow-up diary on milestone expectations and payments. Most ghost writers are self-employed sole entrepreneurs. How do I say this… bottom line, they are professionals yes, and humans with bills to pay too. A delayed payment does not add to their sense of focus and concentration and certainly that does not augur well for your book or ebook.

10.    Keep your 'wise antennae' up. A common disappointment for many people hiring the services of a ghostwriter online is unfinished work and very poorly done work. Check in on the ghost writer. Any ghost writer selling you services without a credible independent online presence may need to grow a tad. If they have results to show of working for themselves, they are likely big enough to carry your work. Google their name and see what you get. If you are looking for a ghostwriter on the internet to write your book or ebook always read the author bio. That is where the little secret code that will lead you to their personal work is.
