What Documents Will I Give my Ghostwriter for Optimum Results?

Alright! You have searched for a ghostwriter and have selected the one you wish to work with, what documents should you give your ghostwriter to start the clock on your work ticking?

If you have razor sharp clarity about the content of your book or ebook, then it will move into form a lot faster. Though you may be clear, you will need to give your thoughts to the ghostwriter in a tangible form to help them create your book or ebook.

While clarity of vision for your ebook or book is important, it should not appear as though you have to have a pseudo-finished product to give to your ghostwriter. You can have clarity in numerous pieces of information scattered in various forms that the ghostwriter needs to sift through and create into a readable book or ebook.

The list below is not air-tight. There may be other ways that you have stored your information other than the ones listed here. Whenever you send materials for your work to your ghostwriter, always record the documents you send and remember to include the dates you send them for your ease of reference.

These documents and materials will be part of the research the ghostwriter will do to create your work. Most important is that these notes and information is what the ghost writer will create into continuous prose or any other written format, to make your book. The materials are:

•    Hand written notes, preferably scanned and saved as a PDF file.
If you have a difficult handwriting to read, then you may consider having your notes typed out as briefs.

•    Typed notes in bulleted lists and phrases

•    Audio or video recordings of your thoughts as you develop the material

•    Photos, drawings, illustrations, reports, and tables
The quality of these at the initial stages is not crucial. The important thing is to get the ideas together with the illustrations and supporting content. They will help the ghostwriter to 'feel' your view.

•    Past works if they are relevant to the project

•    The book's outline and proposed chapter ideas.
These need not have their final chapter headings, but the idea should be there.

•    As much material as you believe will contribute to concretizing your book or ebook.

It is good practice to keep the originals of all your documentation and only send copies to the ghost writer unless that will compromise quality.

Your contract should stipulate a return clause that requires the ghost writer to return all documentation related to the work at the end of the project.
