Write My Story - Why Authors Do Not Reveal They Worked With A Ghostwriter

When you start to ask around, you will learn that majority of the people who have a selling title on the shelves will not mention that their book was written by a ghostwriter. There are two major reasons for that; financial considerations and expediency – with the two firmly joined at the hip.

If you wish to write your book or ebook to reach as large an audience as possible, then you also understand that the larger your readership the more money you are likely to get into your bank account. That there presents the great divide between the fraternity of authors and writers, and the world of readers.

Except a reader, such as yourself, who has had reason to think through the implications of their own pen putting the words of their ebook or book on paper, to most readers the book and the ideas are synonymous with the pen that wrote it. Readers assume, and in fact it is right that they should not be bothered with this minor detail, that the name on the cover held the pen that wrote the ideas.

An author on their part understands the difference between ideas, principles, narrations, and the entire script vis-à-vis the pen that write the book or ebook. To an author the pen is a tool and it is not synonymous with the originator or the idea. An author must contemplate the avenues available to make the idea for their book or ebook come out in the best possible way so that they can reach their desired audience with the best product possible.

These logistical considerations are not the business of the reader who must append authenticity of authorship to the book if they are to buy it. It is therefore expedient to keep the illusion of the holder of the pen and the author being one for the reader because it makes monetary sense. The other view is also the same; it makes monetary sense to keep the illusion of the holder of the pen and the author being one for the reader, because it is expedient to guard the authenticity of authorship of the book.

Can you tell that a book was written by a ghostwriter?
Most certainly yes!

The most common euphemism to ghost writing in the technical pages of a book is 'editorial assistance' or other renditions of the same with the common term being the 'editorial' tag.

Though in some manuscripts such terms may refer to the typist, or the people involved in the publishing process, they most often give credit to the ghost writer. With that piece of information and a little personal research, you will now see there are few self-written best-sellers.

Another more sophisticated euphemism is to refer to the story 'as told to'. This is common with high profile ghost writers. If a ghost writer for instance penned the memoirs of a former or current President of the United States, it gives your book instant clout to mention that name on the cover. It is value by association.

Many of the books that are co-authored are actually an evolved partnership between the author and the ghostwriter. That, however, is a completely different agreement with different legal jurisdictions.
